About Re$tore Cleveland
Re$tore Cleveland is an innovative and ambitious variation of the National Trust for Historic Preservation's "Main Street" program. However, Cleveland's version is based within the structure of existing Community Development Corporations. The program adheres to the Main Street program philosophy of incremental, comprehensive change based on direct, inclusive community participation. Re$tore Cleveland is a program of the Cleveland Neighborhood Development Coalition.
Goals and issues are addressed simultaneously in five key areas:
- Build coalitions of diverse partners to encourage the participation of a wide range of stakeholders, including merchants, residents, property owners and public officials.
- Address quality of life issues that define the nature of the district and contribute to its performance and sustainability.
- Enhance the physical appearance of the district by rehabilitating historic buildings and encouraging supportive new construction.
- Advance investment in a mix of large redevelopment and smaller-scale business development to create a sustainable retail mix.
- Identify, brand, and market the district assets to customers, investors, new businesses, local citizens, and visitors.
